The stories, sometimes funny, sometimes tragic, evoke small town Texas in the 1950's and 60's where readers can explore the impact of her growing up in the jail's environment of lawmen, prisoners, and politics. In the jail, she bumps up against some of life's worst tragedies, including murder, rape and suicide while her parents try to maintain her innocence. A very different coming of age story, she moves into adulthood, trying to find her own identity, her life forever affected by growing up in a county jail.
