Sumario:This treatise fills the need for a modern, up-to-date classification of all the native and introduced grasses in Hawaii. The last comprehensive work on this subject, published in 1939, is outdated, since many introductions have been made since that time and there have been a number of recent changes in the taxonomy of grassesDespite the fact that the Hawaiian Islands lie in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, the islands have received more than 500 species of grasses representing over 100 genera. About 60 species are either native to Hawaii or were introduced by the early Hawaiians.
