Sumario:This book is the standard reference work on fishes of Hawaiian waters. Written for the layman as well as for the trained ichthyologist, the book provides a means by which the native species of Hawaiian fishes can be determined correctly. Esoteric scientific terms (apart from the scientific names themselves) have been avoided whenever possible. Illustrations consist of 279 figures that serve as aids to identification.Common names for the more important commercial fishes are provided in order to achieve uniformity of nomenclature for purposes of catch statistics and law enforcement. To this end the preferred common name is always placed immediately under the scientific name. Accounts are given of every native inshore fish that seems to have validly recorded from Hawaiian waters.
