Gonzalez is a well-known musician from this community herself and, with this background, is especially focused on the ways the arts, particularly music, have created community engagement. Gonzalez blends her own story as a Mexican immigrant's daughter in California who went on to become a Grammy Award-winning musician (as part of the band Quetzal) into her work as an activist and her career as a scholar"--
