|a Biodiversity is a term that was invented by joining two words, biology and diversity, in order to describe and explain the quantity and variety of living organisms that inhabit our planet. Microorganisms such as bacteria, plants such as trees and grasses, animals from the enormous whales to the most curious insects, fungi, protists and lichens, together with the terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems in which they live and the ecological complexities through which that are related, make up the great biological diversity of planet Earth. Without it, our existence and that of all living beings would not be possible.
