Sumario: | This little book is for college undergraduates, who are interested in the development of great movements in history, and in tracing the forces that shaped them. The following pages present for such students the development of Israel's religion from its primitive Semitic beginnings to the coming of Christ. As the history of its religion involves the history of the nation, it is also necessary to treat the origin of Israel. The story of the unfolding of the religion is traced from the time of Moses to the beginning of the Christian era. This material emphasizes the spiritual and social forces that were at work, the great creative personalities, and in broad outline the changes in organization, spiritual vision, and ethical practice.
