How do voters react to carpetbaggers, and how do their opponents run against them? Strangers in a Strange State is the first book-length study to address these questions as well as others. Author Christopher J. Galdieri examines the campaigns of nine carpetbaggers, from nationally known figures like Robert Kennedy and Hillary Clinton to recent examples like Scott Brown and Elizabeth Cheney to less remembered figures like Endicott Peabody and James Buckley. Each case draws on archival research, contemporaneous accounts of each campaign, and scholarship on campaigns and representation.
