Résumé:This paper is intended to serve as a background document to this workshop. Its objective is to provide a comparative analysis of present day evaluative strategies employed in the development of new drugs (Chapter 2), medical devices (Chapter 3), and clinical procedures (Chapter 4). Chapter 5 considers the implications of these strategies for the development process and concludes with some opportunities for improving both the effective and efficient translation of biomedical research findings into clinical practice.
