520 |a Approaches the problems raised by the Holocaust from the standpoint of the theology of culture. The powerful narrative that dominates our technological civilization is the double myth of apocalypse and utopia, both of which can be achieved by unlimited and autonomous technology. This paralyzing belief, together with the technological imperative ("if it can be done it must be done"), leads to attempts to substitute technology for nature; to the division, demonic in its essence, of humanity into "good" and "bad" (i.e. different); and to the search for a utopian or apocalyptic "final solution." The Holocaust and Hiroshima were expressions of the main trends in modern technological society - urbanization, rationalization, and secularization - that culminated in ethical relativism. To solve this problem, attempts to construct a cross-cultural ethics of human dignity. Proposes a coalition of members of holy communities (Jews, Christians, Buddhists) and secular groups, who would prevent any future eruption of the demonic.  |c (From the Bibliography of the Vidal Sassoon International Center for the Study of Antisemitism)
