Die Beschäftigung mit antiker Skulptur hat immer wieder dazu angeregt, antikisierende Bildwerke herzustellen. Etliche dieser Transformationen sind im Rahmen der wissenschaftlichen Beschäftigung mit antiker und nachantiker Skulptur irrtümlic.

Das Kolloquium bot die Gelegenheit, die Argumente, die für die Unterscheidung zwischen antiken und vermeintlich antiken Skulpturen(-teilen) ins Feld geführt werden, zusammenzutragen und auf ihre Tragfähigkeit zu prüfen. Es wurden Beispiele aus der Porträt-, Ideal- und Reliefplastik diskutiert.
