Turner presents five case studies: 1) The campaign for Lake George from 1755-1759 during the Seven Years' War in North America; 2) The Western Front in 1917, during the First World War; 3) The Battle of Guadalcanal in 1942 during the Second World War; 4) The Battle of Stalingrad in 1942-43 during the Second World War; and 5) The Battle of Khe Sanh in 1968, during the Vietnam War.
