Sumario: | Playwrights for Tomorrow was first published in 1967. Minnesota Archive Editions uses digital technology to make long-unavailable books once again accessible, and are published unaltered from the original University of Minnesota Press editions. Five writers are represented in this third volume of a series of collections of plays by dramatists who have participated in an experimental program conducted at the University of Minnesota by the Office for Advanced Drama Research. Dr. Arthur H. Ballet, editor of the series, is the director of the program. The plays in this volume are Five Easy Payments by John Lewin, Where Is de Queen? by Jean-Claude van Itallie, The Great Git-Away by Romeo Muller, With Malice Aforethought by John Stranack, and I, Elizabeth Otis, Being of Sound Mind by Philip Barber. As Dr. Ballet explains in his introduction, the program of the Office for Advanced Drama Research provides a testing ground for promising playwrights by giving them a chance to have their plays actually produced. Publication of the plays makes them available to larger audiences and to further critical appraisal. |
