Sumario:This case provides an overview of soil and groundwater contamination identified and the plume delineation process and results. Emerging contaminants, such as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), are difficult to evaluate and mitigate due to evolving standards, persistence within the environment, widespread use within consumer products, and high cost of remediation. This case study of soil and groundwater plume delineation within an airport due to use of aqueous film forming foam (AFFF) during training of fire-fighters describes a common issue encountered when evaluating PFAS contamination, the presence of multiple PFAS compounds from both non-point and point sources.
