|a This booklet describes, type 316 stainless steel, partly embedded in concrete and exposed to seawater showed excellent corrosion resistance, significantly better than would be expected from the well-recorded experience of the behaviour of the steel in chloride environments. It is considered that the alkalinity of the concrete exerted a beneficial effect, even to areas remote from the embedded section.
