520 | 3 | |a Seismic surveys are subject to many different design criteria, but often the parameters are established based on an outdated view of how data can be acquired and how it will be processed. This book, which accompanies the 2020 SEG Distinguished Instructor Short Course, highlights what is possible using modern acquisition methods, techniques, and equipment, and discusses how these may impact seismic survey design and acquisition. All those interested in seismic surveys can learn something from the material in this book. Geophysicists involved in acquisition may discover new techniques and concepts with which they are unfamiliar. Geophysicists involved in processing seismic data will better understand the shortcomings of the data that they are given to process, and better understand which techniques will work for a particular survey and which will not. Interpreters may better understand the difference between modern seismic volumes presented for interpretation and legacy data they are accustomed to interpreting. For those directly involved in survey design, the concepts will open up the potential for acquiring better images of the subsurface more efficiently and at less cost. | |
