In this 1958 study, R.W. Ketton-Cremer argues that Thomas Gray's Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard still stands apart as an 'extraordinary and isolated phenomenon' which can 'move us today exactly as it moved our forefathers two hundred years ago'.
