|a The study of microorganisms has provided in recent years great contributions to the solution of basic biological problems. Their easy handling, fast growth, great adaptive capacity and other characteristics make them unique study models for biochemistry, cell biology and genetics. The purpose of this manual is to serve as a guide for students to learn microbiology and support material for assistants and technical personnel who work in the implementation and execution of courses related to this topic. Through the study and description of the different microorganisms such as fungi, bacteria and viruses, and the processes that involve them, the student is expected to understand the biochemical and genetic basis of microbiology, as well as the basic procedures for handling them in the laboratory: seeding, staining and biochemical tests for the identification of microorganisms in real samples. At the end of each practical section, a series of questions are formulated that allow broadening the conceptual basis of the subject matter. The book also presents a detailed annex with the composition of culture media, stains, solutions and the most used procedures in a microbiology laboratory, as well as audiovisual material on microbiological procedures. This manual is undoubtedly a very useful tool for learning and experimenting with microorganisms.
