520 |a Werner Sundermann's central research subject was the central Iranian text fragments from the Turfanoase in East Turkistan, today's Uyghur Autonomous Region of Xinjiang, China. He always placed his text editions in a philological, linguistic or religious-historical context. The knowledge that emerged from this extended far beyond Iranian studies to the religious history of Central Asia, the Iranian and Indo-European language and literary history as well as to Turkic and Buddhist studies. The commemorative publication contains over fifty contributions by renowned international scholars connected to Werner Sundermann in Manichaeology, Iranian Studies and Central Asian Studies as well as other related fields. The research topics range from the beginning of our era to the present day and reflect the broad technical breadth of Werner Sundermann's life's work. New text fragments from the Turfan region, Dunhuang and Iran will be edited, connections between sources of Central Asian origin and the Greco-Roman or Persian cultural areas will be examined and individual linguistic or religious phenomena will be analyzed.
