Descripción
Notas:Contains the Italian text of Bodleian Library MS. Canon. Ital. 174 and English translation. Scholars dispute whether Meditationes vitae Christi originated as a Latin or Italian text. This book presents evidence that the original was the Italian testo breve, published for the first time here.
Traditionally ascribed to St Bonaventure, once it was realised that the work was not by him, the ascription was changed to Pseudo-Bonaventure, and was judged to be of unknown Franciscan authorship. The editor of the critical edition of the Latin Meditations associated it with Johannes de Caulibus. This book attributes the original version to a woman author, an anonymous Poor Clare from Pisa.
