Sumario:The presence of Surinamese and (in smaller numbers) Antilleans in our country has become familiar here since the 1960s. Much has also been written on this subject. Less known is the history of the Surinamese and Antilleans who came to the Netherlands before, "starting with slaves brought by Dutch families from" the West "and ending with students and intellectuals who came here for education and training, and some of which remained forever. This book fills a gap by telling their story, sometimes in general terms, sometimes with biographical details. It consists of two separate chapters, one about the Surinamese (G. Indischei) and one about the Antilleans (E. Maduro). Separate pages are devoted to some well-known figures: Anton de Kom and Albert Helman (Sur), and Cola Debrot and Boeli van Leeuwen (Ned. Ant.). The book is distinguished by a careful set-up, with an extensive bibliography and notes
