Sumario: | An integral part of the decorative program in Egyptian temples built in the Greco-Roman period are the long rows of offering-bearing gods that adorn the lowest sections of the walls in many parts of the complex. In the past, these pedestal or soubassement processions were not given the same attention as the much-noticed ritual scenes, which is also shown by the small number of specialist publications that have appeared to date. In order to close this gap a bit, Alexa Rickert presents in her study Deity and Gift a comparative analysis of two processions that can be assigned to the so-called economic type. Processions of this type are characterized by the depiction of gods, each representing a specific group of offerings (e.g. milk, bread or cattle for slaughter). In addition to hieroglyphic transcription, transliteration, translation and commentary, a complete redrawing of the reliefs on 51 plates is presented, which enables the reader to easily consult the representations belonging to the text. Rickert not only goes into the function of the economic processions in the soubassement of the late temples, but also relates the group of texts to representatives of other genres in order to uncover possible relationships. |
