Descripción
Sumario:In the middle of the 10th century, an anonymous author in Kashmir wrote a masterly literary, philosophical didactic poem on self-redemption, the Moksopaya ("Way to Liberation") made available as a historical-critical text edition of the six books with about 30,000 stanzas Part IV contains the text of the fifth book Upasanti ("On Coming to Rest"), critically edited on the basis of all available manuscripts. Text-historically secondary sections were typographically identified, a summary of the contents facilitates the overview of the approximately 4299 stanzas of the Sanskrit text. In the dialogue between the sage Vasista and the prince Rama, the Moksopaya's worldview and doctrine of salvation are discussed discursively and illustrated in nine fictional narratives. Coming to rest illustrates, for example, the story of the Dirghatapa's orphaned sons who develop dispassion after seeing through the illusory relationships between living beings. In addition, the "salvation while still alive" through reflection and the ideal of fulfilling one's duties without intention as well as the "salvation beyond life" that can be achieved through meditative-yogic and sometimes suicidal practices are presented using the example of various rulers. A narrative highlight is the story of the ascetic Gadhi, which illustrates a radical spiritual monism. In his dreams, he learns about various life stories that, after waking up, turn out to be empirically verifiable.
