Sumario: | The Buddhist canon of the Theravada school, written in Pali, is consistently explained by Pali commentaries (Atthakatha, 5th/6th century AD), which in turn are supplemented by subcommentaries (Tika, ca. 11th/13th century AD .) are explained. A commentary class between these two forms the Ganthipadas (ca. 5th/6th-12th/13th century AD), the "comments on difficult words", which are written in Pali or also in regional languages and originally the difficult ones Words, but later also explain content-related questions. Only a few Ganthipadas have survived to this day. With Volume 1 of the publications of the Indological Commission of the Academy of Sciences, Petra Kieffer-Pülz presents the first detailed study on commentaries of the Ganthipada class. With those lost today Ganthipada's Dhammasiris Ganthipada (5th/6th century AD, Sri Lanka) and Vajirabuddhi's Anuganthipada (c. 7th-9th century AD, southern India?) become two of the main sources of the Vajirabuddhitika, the oldest sub-commentary on the Vinaya The treatise consists of three parts: the introduction with literary and cultural-historical information and explanations of Vinaya exegesis, the catalog of text quotations, in which the 335 quotations from Dhammasiri's Ganthipada and the 274 quotations from Vajirabuddhi's Anuganthipada are cited in context, translated and analyzed in comparison with the rest of the legal literature; and finally the third part, which opens up the extensive material with a Pali-German glossary of important terms, a list of all sources of the Vajirabuddhitika, an index locorum as well as a vocabulary and a subject index. |
