Especially the debates of the student movement in the 1960s and 1970s were significantly influenced and promoted by - new or repositioned - publishers, including left-wing or "anti-authoritarian" children's and youth literature. As an established publisher, Rowohlt founded the paperback series rororo rotfuchs in 1972 for 4 to 14 year olds Rowohlt advertised the market launch with slogans like "red fox jumps on every table: Here are my books - hiss!" The series polarized strongly because it distributed socio-critical literature for young readers in very large editions. For example, she focused on injustice against minorities; emancipatory books were created. The figurehead of the series was the sly red fox, which was reflected in the logo and in a comic on the back cover of the book. Building on the success of rotfuchs, Rowohlt founded the rororo panther series for young adults in 1979. Here realistic and alternative topics for 14 to 20 year olds should be worked on. panther made headlines with the choice of topics ranging from conscientious objection and drug abuse to homosexuality and abortion. Corinna Norrick-Rühl analyzes these two series of paperbacks, which were engines of social change in the 1970s and 1980s, from a socio-historical point of view. The perspective of publishing history is supplemented by insights into development processes on the German (paperback) book market and in children's and young adult literature.
