Sumario:The letters of Synesius of Cyrene (approx. 370-413 AD), who was not only a philosopher and writer, but also a general and bishop, give an insight into the social, political and religious-intellectual conditions of his time. For this volume nine letters were translated and commented on; they offer a first access to Synesios' world, especially to the imagery of his ideas of the afterlife, fed from the myths of Plato.
