|a Questions of social security as well as the situation and development on the labor market have long been among the central topics of discussion and problem areas of German economic, social and financial policy. There are a variety of relationships between the two areas, which are extraordinarily complex and require a differentiated, theoretically and empirically sound analysis that takes institutional regulations into account. The Social Policy Committee is presenting a second conference volume on this issue. All contributions refer to the German situation, several are based on the application of microeconometric methods. The effects of subsidizing social security contributions and the evaluation of labor market policy measures are dealt with. It is about methodological questions and the meaningfulness of empirical results. With the question, which has not yet been empirically investigated, of how the regional availability of childcare facilities affects the labor supply of mothers with children of kindergarten age, a topic is taken up that is increasingly coming to the fore in the political discussion in Germany in comparison to measures of (monetary) family burden equalization is moved: the compatibility of family and gainful employment. The authors also ask: To what extent has the distribution of gross wages remained stable over time? What are the interactions between immigration and the pay-as-you-go statutory pension insurance system? How can e.g. B. Are pension policy decisions a reaction to the international mobility of workers? The contributions provide insights into application-oriented labor market and social policy research and contribute to a better understanding of the complex interactions between the labor market and social security.
