This book describes the commonalities and unique experience of childhood loss. Specifically, the five stages of grief are defined, and used as a framework for understanding grief and a process that children may experience with various types of losses. This book focuses on loss through death, divorce, and childhood illness, and the cultural and religious aspects of death and the grieving process. As educators are critical sources of support for grieving children, this book supports educators in recognizing children's significant symptoms of grief, it provides strategies for including death and loss in the curriculum, and it makes suggestions for talking to children about death.
