His family accidentally discovers his connection with a group seeking to avenge Canada's military presence in Afghanistan. Belief traces Rafiq's initial attraction to, and subsequent rejection of fundamentalist ideas, and his family's trauma following his arrest. It also narrates the stories of the parents (Ruksana and Abdul) and the two children (Ziram and Rafiq), and their life in India and Canada over the last two decades. Rafiq's parents were victims of hate in India, and fled to Canada following religious violence. Thematically, Belief examines the radicalization and alienation among a section of young Muslims living in western societies, and the interplay of attitudes on both sides that is leading to an ever-widening chasm, and a spurt in violent and random outbursts."--  |c Provided by publisher
