Die Übersetzungen sind textnah gehalten, damit die Nachverfolgung des lateinischen Textes auch den gebildeten, jedoch fachfremden Lesern erleichtert wird. Main description: This sourcebook compiles the first complete collection and translation of ancient Latin texts through the Constantinian period about the Scythians and other nomadic peoples in the Scythian cultural group, such as the Massagetians, Essedonians, Daheans, and Sakas. Thus, it provides extensive insights into the ways that the Romans viewed nomadic culture and the nomadic way of life. The sourcebook is designed to aid the research work of historians, archeologists, students of ancient and early history, philologists, and ethnologists. The translations are kept quite literal, in order to make it easier for educated readers who are not specialists in the field to conduct comparisons with the Latin text. |
