|a The issue summarizes 22 selected papers of the XII international conference Baltic Polymer Symposium 2012, held in Liepaja, Latvia, from 19-22 of September, 2012. Since 2001 the event is annually organized by technical universities of the three Baltic States. Baltic Polymer Symposium 2012 in Liepāja was visited by participants not only from the three Baltic States, but also by participants from Taiwan, Germany, Finland, United Kingdom, Poland, Ukraine and Russia. The scope of the proceedings comprises all aspects of modern polymers science: synthesis, processing, recycling, composites, nanotechnologies etc. The annual event is sponsored by the three Baltic states, and since the first one in 2001, has become an important forum for disseminating findings and beginning collaborations by the region's researchers in polymer chemistry, physics, and technology. Participants also come from other parts of the world, though mostly from Europe. Among this year's 22 papers are discussions of improving the absorption properties of cotton blended fabric, electrochemical properties of advanced anodes for lithium-ion batteries based on carboxy-methyl-cellulose as binder, three different approaches for synthesizing polyal from rapeseed oil, properties of polyurethanes based on tall oil fatty acid esters with different types of flame retardants, and liquid crystalline co-polyester made from recycled polyethylene terephthalate and p-acetoxybenzoic acid.
