The work is an excellent guide to the current state-of-the art of these subjects. In this two-volume set, papers from a December 2011 conference held in China are gathered in sections on industrial engineering and materials science, applied chemical engineering, mechanical engineering and computer science, biomaterials science and environmental engineering, and applied mechanics and structural engineering. Some specific topics examined include numerical simulation of a nuclear main pump, the effects of diameter and arrangement of nozzles on combustion and emissions in cylinders, and the effects of different leading edge shapes on numerical simulation of a centrifugal compressor. The section on biomaterials and environmental engineering contains papers on topics such as the synthesis of a novel polymer as an antimicrobial finishing agent for cotton, and component analysis of sugar cane molasses stillage sediment. The section on applications in chemical engineering describes areas such as studying the properties of corn-starch-based fat mimics, monitoring deterioration of milk by measuring surface tension coefficient and viscosity, the isolation of high-quality DNA and RNA from aloe, and purification of precipitated silica produced from yellow phosphorous slag.
