Sumario:International observers looking into the future see China, the United States, and India as the world's largest economies, and these analysts assume that with the rise of India and China there will be a corresponding growth in these countries' military capabilities and their foreign policy interests. India's rise to power, however, is dependent on its ability to resolve its internal challenges as well as its willingness to participate as a stakeholder in the international system -- particularly in what has been described as the Indo-Pacific region. This book examines why India's foreign and security policy is configured in its current manner and where it is headed in the short to medium term. It does this by looking at India's central interactions as well as its foreign policy actions in adjacent areas like Southwest and Southeast Asia. It then goes on to look at where the Indian government is headed in the future within the Indo-Pacific region.
