|a Der norwegische Maler und Grafiker, Edvard Munch (1863-1944), begründete seinen Ruhm mit expressiven Ausdrucksformen. Er verstand es, menschliche Grunderfahrungen, wie Angst oder Einsamkeit, in seinen Werken zum Ausdruck zu bringen. Edvard Munch gehört zu den maßgeblichen Vorläufern der Avantgarde. In der Gestaltung durch neue bildnerische Mittel beeinflusste Edvard Munch nachdrücklich die Expressionisten. Später kehrte er zu realistischen Szenen zurück. Seine Bilder "Das kranke Kind" (1885/86), "Der Schrei" (1893) und "Madonna" (1894/95) zählen zu den bekanntesten Werken der Kunstgeschichte.
