Otoliths of common Australian temperate fish : a photographic guide /
Otoliths (fish earbones) have a characteristic shape for each species of fish. Being bony, otoliths remain undigested for long periods and as a result can indicate which fish make up the diet of various predators, including fish, sharks, cephalopods, mammals, penguins and seabirds generally.
