Sumario:This book is a study of the University of Caen, France, from its foundation in 1432 to 1609. It offers an innovative approach to the study of universities by incorporating to the traditional synthesis the latest developments in sociological and historical interpretation. Divided into five chapters, this study's aim is two-fold: firstly, to demonstrate that the University of Caen had an integral role in the development of a strong and distinct identity for Normandy as a region with the kingdom of France. Secondly, to analyze the identities and representations not only of the University as an institution but also those of its members.
