520 |a A reference book for the most common fund structures within the principal financial markets. It will cover the fund's purpose and use, tax, regulatory and legal structure. The book will begin by defining what a fund is and categorising funds by method of investor return, industry, investment strategy and structure. It will also give a brief history of where funds originate from and the differences between closed-ended and open ended fund structures. It will then explore the structure, tax, purpose, as well as advantages and disadvantages of the most popular funds. These will include Private Equity and Real Estate Funds, Hedge funds, Debt, Mezzanine and Energy funds, as well as Listed Institutional (including Investment Trusts and REITs) and Retail funds (including Unit Trusts, oeICs, ETFs, VCTs and EISs) pension schemes, superannuation, state funds and sovereign wealth funds. It will also explain the different offshore locations that are used for funds as well as looking at the most popular European, Asian, Australian and African fund structures. Finally it will set out the tax principles and regulatory environment surrounding funds and, most importantly, the last chapter will draw comparisons between the discussed fund structures.
