Responses to Suffering in Classical Rabbinic Literature.

The author examines classical Jewish literature to see how Rabbis answered questions arising from the existence of suffering. Responses to events such as the defeat of Palestine by Rome and the destruction of the Temple at Jerusalem are shown as relevant to the theological problem of suffering.
