Descripción
Sumario:This monograph describes 147 species of a monogenetic trematodes, found in 121 of 245 species of Hawaiian fishes. Included are three new genera (Pseudancyrocephalus, Gempylitrema, and Prostatomicrocotyla) and one new aspidogasterid species. Two new names, Nasicola and Alleoheterocotyla, are proposed as new combinations. Most of the trematodes are new species, and 42 species are already known from Hawaiian and other waters. As a general rule, the distribution of the Hawaiian Monogenea is related to the distribution of their hosts. Widely distributed oceanic fishes, such as Acanthocybium, harbor a species of trematode common to the Atlantic as well as to the Pacific.
