Als analytische Kategorie integriert Enttäuschung Erfahrungen im Sinne von gedeuteter Vergangenheit sowie Zukunft in der Form von Erwartungen. Heuristisch öffnet Enttäuschung daher den Blick für die Vielfalt denkbarer und wünschenswerter Zukünfte. Die hier versammelten Beiträge unterstreichen dieses explorative Potenzial. Sie verdeutlichen, wie Erwartungen und die Schlussfolgerungen daraus kollektiv verhandelt wurden. Erwartungsmanagement zielte darauf ab, Enttäuschung zu vermeiden oder ihre Folgen zu minimieren. Dies gelang nicht immer. Doch Enttäuschung bedeutete niemals das "Ende der Geschichte". Die Beiträge illustrieren vielmehr, welche Wege Personen und Gruppen fanden, um Enttäuschung zu überwinden.
