|a Very rarely is paper produced without the aid of chemicals. This second edition of Applications of Wet-End Paper Chemistry describes the types, uses and application of most of the chemicals used at the wet end of a paper, board and (to some extent) tissue machine. The editors Dr. Ian Thorn (Business Manager, Central Europe) and Dr. Che On Au (Applications Manager, Global), both working at Eka Chemicals Ltd, Congresbury, UK, have assembled a team of international contributors who have amassed enormous experience in working with paper chemicals employed at the wet end of paper manufacture. In recent years, both environmental and economic pressures have influenced the development of more efficient paper and board machines and their wet end systems to improve both production and quality. The authors, predominantly working for chemical suppliers, describe the new products and systems developed as solutions to these new challenges. Written primarily for chemists and engineers working in the mill, Applications of Wet-End Paper Chemistry is also of particular value to suppliers of paper chemicals and to students of papermaking.
